So here it is the big news. Script to Performance can announce that our production of Behind The Drag by Jessica Irwin will be performed as part of the Scene + Heard Festival on the 14th and 15th of February 2026 at Smock Alley Theatre.
Drag queen, Sweet Charity, (aka Paul McNamara), emigrates from Ireland in 1990 to Key West to pursue a career in drag and escape the prejudice from their community. In 2019, after a drag performance, Miss Charity gets interviewed by an unknown caller who encourages the drag queen to discuss their dark past and journey from Ireland to the United States. Little does Sweet Charity know, the interviewer has a family connection to someone who very close to Sweet Charity they are in a bad way and the interviewer tries to convince the Drag Queen to return to their Irish roots in their hometown in Carlow.
